We are proud to announce that IOI researchers have published a groundbreaking paper in Nature Microbiology, titled “Mechanisms of Resistance in Gram-Negative Bacteria and Pathways for Drug Development.”
The study explores how Gram-negative bacteria—responsible for many of the world’s hardest-to-treat infections—develop resistance at the cellular level. Using state-of-the-art imaging and genomic sequencing, the research team identified previously unknown resistance pathways that allow these bacteria to adapt rapidly in the presence of antibiotics.
The findings are significant because they open up new opportunities for drug discovery. By targeting these pathways, scientists can design compounds that are more difficult for bacteria to evade.
This publication not only advances scientific understanding but also reinforces the role of the Ineos Oxford Institute as a global leader in antimicrobial research.
